At the foot of the castle , the village square , with its Roman church is the gathering location of numerous shops and services.
The Saint Gaudent Church, Roman in style, is located on the main square of Sommieres at the footstep of the Castle.
The church displays the characteristics typical of XIIth and XIIIth century eccleciastical architecture with its arches and bay windows. The more modern chapel in the church has 16 th Century windows.
The Western façade is registered with the French Historical Monuments Registry (ISMH). The inside of the church has several tombstones and a wooden gallery dating back from the 17 th century. Outside of the church, one can find a picture of the arms of the Rat lord, a past benefactor of the Church.
The Church was entirely restored in 2005, when 12 contemporary stain glass panels, made by a glassblowing expert Mrs. Christine Cocard, were installed.
A charming wash-house is close to the bridge over the Clain river, which looks out onto the town hall. The library is adorned with a fresco produced by a local artist.
The camp site , located close by the river Clain, is about 400 meters from the village along a shady lane. On this route, you can see the fountain "Saint Gaudent" at the foot of a small stone bridge.
